Welcome to the home of the Bristol Reservoirs Fly Fishers Association…
In 1970 a group of enthusiastic fly fishermen decided that it was about time a club was formed to represent the views and engender a sense of community amongst the fly fishing fraternity on the Bristol Water fisheries.
Thus the Bristol Reservoir Fly Fishers’ Association (BRFFA) was formed and the whole idea caught on. Within a few years the BRFFA was the pre-eminent club in England.
The original aim was merely to encourage and promote fly fishing in the Bristol area. Over the years the Association has broadened its brief and by the ’90s the BRFFA had become the most successful club in English (and possibly British) competition fishing. The roll of honour included:
Benson & Hedges International Champions 1984, 1985, 1989 and 1993
Wychwood Team Champions 1995
Welsh Water Team Champions 1995, 1996 and 1998
And that tradition carries on to this day with the current members who represent the “BRFFA Team” being narrowly beaten into second place in the 2009 Lexus Final on Rutland Water.
Social events also remain very much part of the committee’s organisation and roles, with meetings and events in the off season and a series of friendly competitions.
In 2009, despite the tough economic climate, the BRFFA managed to increase its membership, donate more money to our chosen charity and even encourage more anglers to represent the club in different representative events.
See our section on Membership Details. For the second year, Brsitol Water are kindly sponsoring BRFFA membership. So when you sign up and pay your subscription you will receive a voucher, to the same value, which can be used against the price of any fishing permit on Bristol Water fisheries.
