Bristol Water kindly organised a friendly day for local teams in recognition of the support they provide over the year.
A day of light winds, spells of bright sunshine and some cloud later on.
14 limits out of 47 anglers and plenty of good back up bags. The match was won by Blagdon Fly Fishers who had 44 fish between the 6 of them.
Certainly there were fish coming up to dries. But it was frustrating for some as they weren’t really taking. The other method, was nymphs fished quite quickly in the upper layers - either using a small booby on the point, or using lightweight flies fished with a fast figure of eight to keep them up in the water.
Best areas were around the cages off the Lodge and down in to Villice, although some had success along Walley as well.
No big fish caught, all recent stockies. But given the time of the year and the warm weather it was an excellent day’s fishing.
The BRFFA Emergers managed 5th out of 8 teams on the day. Paul Roach took a limit of 8 and John Humphry had 7, but the rest were not consistent enought to threaten the top teams.

CHAIRMAN’S BARBARIANS 3rd in Bristol Water Teams Competition

BRFFA Chairman invited 5 other Fly Fishers join the team for the Bristol Water Teams Competition on Sunday 22nd August - Martin Cottis produced an 8 Fish Limit Bag - All on Dry Flies,Tom Handford also weighed in an 8 Fish Limit, Steve Taylor could not nail the eighth fish for a limit but his 7 Fish helped. Chris Homeyard caught 4 for 6lb 14oz and John Wellman had 4 Fish for 6lb 10oz and Will Lear made up the 6 Man Team

Bristol Water provided a free drink and a meal afterwards to round off a very good day at Chew. Our thanks to Bob and the rest of the team.
